Wealth management and advisery firm Alvarium is eyeing further growth after making two senior hires.

Alvarium in New Zealand began as a partnership between UK-based Alvarium Investments and Gough Investments in 2018. A year later it acquired ethical investor Pathfinder Asset Management before in 2021 acquiring high-net-worth financial firm Newton Ross.

Then in 2022, the global Alvarium business merged with wealth adviser firm Tiedemann to become Alti, which listed on the Nasdaq in early 2023 with US$60 billion in assets.

Gough, however, opted out of the merger, and in late 2022 changed the ownership structure of Alvarium NZ to become 100% New Zealand-owned. The resulting Alvarium NZ is 75% owned by an entity mostly owned by Gough Investments, Alvarium founder Andrew Williams and Brett Gamble. Other shareholders including Pathfinder's founders John Berry and Paul Brownsey.

Now, the firm is talking up its growth prospects and the expansion of its private wealth and investment teams following two senior hires, both formerly of Jarden.

Strong growth

Barron was previously at Jarden for nearly eight years, most recently as head of client solutions, institutional equities. She has more than 20 years' capital markets experience across Australasia, Hong Kong and the United States.

She is also currently serving a year-long term as the first future director on the board of NZX-listed Precinct Properties.

At Alvarium, she leads an 11-person adviser team providing financial planning and advisory services, equities and fixed income, alternative investments such as private credit.

Ward, meanwhile, was previously director of wealth management research at Jarden, and before that spent nine years as director at Coutts & Co in London managing the firm's £12 billion multi-asset fund.

Alvarium chief investment officer Wayne Ross said the firm was delighted with the hires.

“The appointments of Alana and Jeremy, two highly respected and globally experienced practitioners in their field, signals the firm’s investment in talent to support our strong growth as we continue to provide clients with a unique wealth management offer.”
